I have loved second hand forever. When I was a kid, mum worked in a second hand shop in Darwin and I was obsessed with rummaging through the baskets and racks. I used to lay my outfit on the bed the night before school and plan my daily promenade. Re-loved, reused, I love it all. The thrill of the ultimate find, the research, the reduction on our landfill, outfits that give the middle finger to beige. Saying no to sweat shops, cheaply made, mass produced. Saying yes to ethical, slow fashion. Individuality and quality. History and preservation.
The Dusty Mermaid is the result of cultivating a dream and a huge leap of faith from Sydney to Tassie.
